Guided tours through a real gold mine from the 1870s, a good one with kids.
Apple season
Fall is harvest season, with orchards, cider stands and u-pick apples while the fruit lasts.
Winter in the mountains
Some winters bring snow to the pines. Dark Moon Chalet is decorated for Christmas from late November through mid January.

A NOTE BEFORE YOU BOOK
Both cabins are near Lake Cuyamaca, not within walking distance of Julian’s Main Street, so plan to drive into town. Wild Moon Ranch sits on two private acres in mountain country, where you may see deer, wild turkeys and rattlesnakes. Keep children and dogs close outdoors.

A few things to know before you book
How far is Julian from San Diego and Los Angeles?
About an hour by car from San Diego, and about three hours from Los Angeles, which makes it one of the easiest mountain weekend getaways from either city. Dark Moon Chalet is about fifteen minutes from downtown Julian.
Will there be snow?
Often, yes. Julian gets snow most winters, and a snowy weekend in the pines is one of the best reasons to come. Mountain road conditions can change quickly after a storm, so check current conditions before leaving and carry chains when required.
Is there WiFi?
Yes. Both cabins have fast Starlink WiFi, so you can work if you need to and unplug when you want to.
What should I bring?
Groceries for the first night. Julian has small markets, but for a full shop it is easier to stock up on the way up the mountain.
