Park once and walk everywhere
One of the best things about staying in Ocean Beach is how little you need your car. From our vacation rentals, you can walk to the beach, Newport Avenue, coffee shops, restaurants, the market, and antique stores in about twenty minutes or less.
A beach neighborhood that loves dogs
We travel with our two huskies, so dog-friendly really matters to us. Every Ocean Beach rental we host welcomes dogs, and Dog Beach, one of San Diego’s best-known off-leash beaches, is close by.
It still feels like Ocean Beach
OB is not polished, and that is exactly why we love it. There are no chain hotels on the sand. Instead, you get independent restaurants, old surf shops, antique stores, and a Wednesday farmers market that takes over Newport Avenue.
Close to everything, without feeling like it
Ocean Beach feels tucked away, but it is one of the easiest places to stay in San Diego. The airport is about fifteen minutes away, downtown is twenty, and Sunset Cliffs, Point Loma, Mission Bay, and Pacific Beach are all nearby.

Things to do in Ocean Beach, San Diego
One of the best parts of staying in OB is that the beach, restaurants, and most of our favorite neighborhood spots are close enough to reach on foot. These are the places we send our guests first.
Beaches and coastal views
Ocean Beach Dog Beach
One of San Diego’s original off-leash beaches, located where the San Diego River meets the Pacific. Dogs can run off leash all day, every day. Go early if your dog prefers a little more space.
Ocean Beach City Beach
The main stretch of sand at the end of Newport Avenue, with year-round lifeguards and plenty of room to settle in for the day. This is the easiest beach to walk to from Seaside Square.
Ocean Beach tide pools
Just south of the pier, the rocky reef opens up at low tide into pools full of anemones and crabs. Check the tide chart before you go and wear shoes you do not mind getting wet.
Ocean Beach Pier
The pier is currently closed while the city plans its replacement, but it remains one of Ocean Beach’s most recognizable landmarks and a beautiful backdrop at sunset.
Where to eat in Ocean Beach
Rosemarie’s Burgers
Honestly, the best sliders we have ever had. It is on the same block as Seaside Square, which is dangerous in the best possible way.
Olive Tree Marketplace
Our favorite neighborhood grocery store and deli, also on the Seaside Square block. The sandwiches are incredible, and it has everything you need for a beach picnic, a bottle of wine, or dinner at the house.
It’s Raw Poke Shop
The best poke we have had outside Hawaii. Pick it up near the beach and go early because the most popular options can sell out.

More things to do in Ocean Beach
Ocean Beach Farmers Market
Every Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m., Newport Avenue closes to cars and fills with produce, flowers, local food, artists, and live music. It is one of our favorite nights to be in the neighborhood.
Ocean Beach Antique District
Newport Avenue is lined with antique stores, vintage shops, consignment stores, and multi-dealer markets. Give yourself at least an hour, even if you are only browsing.
Point Loma and Mission Bay
Cabrillo National Monument and the Point Loma tide pools are about fifteen minutes south. Mission Bay, with calm water, boat rentals, paddleboards, and playgrounds, is about ten minutes north.
Sunset Cliffs coastal walk
About ten minutes south of Ocean Beach, a path runs along the top of the sandstone cliffs with some of the best sunset views in San Diego. Arrive early, walk the top, and stay until the light disappears. The edges are unfenced in places, so keep kids and dogs close.

People traveling with dogs
The strongest reason to choose Ocean Beach over anywhere else in San Diego. Off leash sand at the north end, every one of our homes dog friendly, and at OB Surfer's Paradise a fenced yard with a dog door, an outdoor dog wash and a grassy off leash park directly across the street.
Groups who want one roof
Seaside Square is a four unit compound around a shared courtyard that sleeps nineteen across eight bedrooms. Take the whole thing for a wedding weekend or a reunion, or book a single unit and keep it small.
People who would rather walk than drive
If your ideal vacation involves parking once and not touching the car again, this is the neighborhood.
Anyone who finds the polished beach towns a bit much
Ocean Beach is scruffier, friendlier and considerably less expensive to eat in than La Jolla or downtown.
Close to everything, quiet when you come home
Both Seaside Square and OB Surfer’s Paradise are located on quiet residential streets. You can walk to the beach, restaurants, shops, and everything people love about Ocean Beach, then come home to a calmer part of the neighborhood.

How close is the beach?
Seaside Square is two blocks from the beach. OB Surfer’s Paradise is about a fifteen-minute walk from Dog Beach.
Is parking included?
Yes. Every Seaside Square rental has dedicated parking, and OB Surfer’s Paradise has a large private driveway. That is a major perk in Ocean Beach, especially on sunny weekends when street parking fills quickly.
Can I walk around Ocean Beach?
Absolutely. Ocean Beach is one of San Diego’s most walkable beach neighborhoods. From our rentals, you can easily reach the beach, Newport Avenue, coffee shops, restaurants, markets, and neighborhood favorites on foot.
Will I hear airplanes?
Ocean Beach is about fifteen minutes from San Diego International Airport, which is incredibly convenient, but it also means you will hear aircraft during the day. Most scheduled departures are restricted between 11:30 p.m. and 6:30 a.m., although arrivals and occasional exempt flights may still be heard. We want guests to know this before booking, especially light sleepers.
How easy is it to explore the rest of San Diego?
Ocean Beach is an easy base for exploring San Diego. Sunset Cliffs and Point Loma are just minutes away, while Pacific Beach, downtown, and La Jolla are generally within a twenty-five-minute drive. Julian is about ninety minutes inland if you want to pair the coast with a mountain day. Drive times vary with traffic.

Seaside Square and all four of its units are two blocks from the sand. OB Surfer's Paradise is about a fifteen minute walk from Dog Beach. Every home is within walking distance of Newport Avenue.

Which is better for families, Ocean Beach or Pacific Beach?
Pacific Beach, if the children are small, because Mission Bay gives you flat calm water on one side and the ocean on the other. Ocean Beach, if you are bringing a dog or you want to walk everywhere.
