The house
A coastal bungalow on a quiet Bird Rock street
A thoughtfully designed two-bedroom La Jolla vacation rental on a quiet Bird Rock street, two blocks from the ocean.
Wavehouse is a two-bedroom, two-bath bungalow that sleeps six in Bird Rock, at the south end of La Jolla. Windansea Beach is a short walk down the hill, and coffee shops, restaurants and the neighborhood market are all within walking distance.
The living room, dining room and kitchen flow into one another, so the house feels open without losing the character of the original bungalow. There is a fireplace and comfortable seating in the living room, a fully stocked kitchen, and a wood-paneled breakfast nook with its own coffee bar.
The primary suite has an ensuite bathroom, Parachute linens, a large closet and a vanity. The second bedroom is just down the hall from the second full bathroom. A separate bonus room has a queen Murphy bed, giving larger families and groups another comfortable place to sleep.
Outside, the landscaped backyard has grass, a fire pit, a propane grill and plenty of room to sit together.
01 · The backyard

The backyard is unusually spacious for Bird Rock, with real grass, mature landscaping and room for children and dogs to play. It feels private and tucked away from the street.
There is lounge seating around the fire pit, a propane grill and room to eat outside. The dining room opens directly onto the yard, which makes it easy to move dinner outdoors and spend the rest of the evening by the fire.
02 · The breakfast nook
Coffee in the wood-paneled nook
The original wood paneling wraps around the breakfast nook, with a bay window and round table that make it one of the coziest spots in the house.
The coffee bar is right beside it, stocked with a French press, drip coffee maker, grinder, local beans, loose-leaf tea, cream and sugar. When you want to head out, several neighborhood coffee shops are about a ten-minute walk away.
03 · The primary suite
An ensuite and a real closet
Parachute linens on the bed, a woven headboard, lamps on both sides and blackout blinds for the mornings you want to sleep through the light.
It has its own bathroom, a large closet with room to actually unpack, a vanity with seating and a mirror, and a smart TV. The second full bathroom is down the hall by the second bedroom, so nobody is waiting on anybody.

“Every evening we would walk down to the beach”
Aubrey's place is in a beautiful quiet neighborhood walkable to the beach, restaurants, coffee, and dress shops. The house is equipped with everything you need including a full length mirror, coffee grinder and a steamer (things I appreciate that haven't always been in other places I've stayed). The bedrooms are spacious and well equipped. The living room has a fireplace and a cozy couch where you can watch movies. I was there visiting my son who lives nearby. Every evening we would walk the few blocks down to the beach to enjoy the sunset. I highly recommend.
“We fell in love as soon as we walked in”
My family of five stayed here and fell in love as soon as we walked in! The home was even more beautiful than the photos, it was so charming, cozy and had plenty of room for all of us to stay comfortably for a week. The beds were really comfortable, the neighborhood felt safe and was very walkable. You’re a super quick drive to shops and dining and an easy walk as well. Everything was clean and we had all the amenities we needed for the bathroom, kitchen and for family needs. Truly such a perfect place to stay, we will absolutely book here again!

“Probably our favorite airbnb in a good long while”
A perfect home for our family! We have a 3 year old and two big dogs, so the setup was beyond perfect for us. We loved having a beautiful yard, two separate spaces, and a driveway. The home was SO close to an amazing beach access spot, then we rented bikes to get the extra half mile/mile to bird rock’s great restaurants and cafes. Aubrey was so responsive, within minutes every time we wanted to check in. Probably our favorite airbnb in a good long while!
“My own little oasis”
Loved my stay at this sweet home in Bird Rock. It was exactly as described and in pictures. The interior design felt very high end and luxurious but also cozy and like a home away from home. Loved walking to the beach and El Pescador for a fish of the day burro. The house was quiet and private and though it rained the few days I was here looking out into the green garden from the sliding back door was so peaceful, like my own little oasis.

This cottage was magical. It is a little peace of heaven next to the beach. Close to everything. The entire house is decorated beautifully and the linens and beds were so comfy. We absolutely loved our experience in this cottage and Aubrey was an outstanding host. Highly recommend.

This is a beautiful home designed and outfitted beyond the typical Airbnb. Aubrey added many nice touches, and it is a lovely space. It wasn't as walkable as we hoped and we drove most everywhere. Recommendations on local spots were helpful. It was on the pricey side since we had a very small group. I think it would be comfortable for four; six is pushing it a bit, but doable with the Murphy bed in the front entrance area. It would be nice to fully enclose the backyard for pups. We were under the assumption it was, however, openings on two sides would allow for a curious pup to escape. Overall, a great visit.
We enjoyed our stay at Aubrey’s home. Was in a good location and walkable to Bird Rock & La Jolla areas. Being only a couple blocks from the beach was also great for morning/evening walks. It felt like home and the bedding was very nice. Would certainly consider staying here again if looking in this area!
This is our second time staying at one of Aubrey’s homes. She is a wonderful communicator and host. We used to live around the corner and love the location! Very walkable, from all directions. Something different to explore from pretty homes to Bird Rock and beach. House is clean and check in was smooth.
We had a very nice stay! Restaurants are walkable within .25 to .75 mile. Windansea Beach is very walkable for a nice morning activity with the dogs. The house is very clean and unique. The primary bedroom is generously sized with a nice bathroom. We enjoyed the house very much!

My family and I had a magical week at Aubrey‘s place. There was plenty of space for my husband, my two teenage sons and myself. This house is super close to the beach, and it is an easy walk there. You can also walk to restaurants nearby. We chose not to rent a car and just spent a lot of time walking to various spots in La Jolla and we really enjoyed that. Obviously you could rent a car if you wanted to go further a field, but for us, we were very happy with being able to hang out at the beach, and cafés and Aubrey’s place. We would 100% rent this place again and would love to come back in the future!
This bungalow was adorable!!! Very comfortable & cozy! The interior is perfectly designed & could be featured in a magazine! Although you can’t see the water from the house, it’s just a very short walk to the beach and local coffee shops & restaurants. The host promptly answered any of my questions. I will definitely stay here again & will recommend it to my friends & family!

Cute beach bungalow in great location!
We had a great stay at Aubrey’s place! The house was beautiful, clean, and spacious. Walkable to the beach and a few restaurants which is always a plus. Big backyard that was great for the little dogs we bring with us when we travel. Private driveway with plenty of room for a large truck which is nice compared to a lot of places as the streets in La Jolla get packed with cars in the summer. Like most houses in the area there is no AC, but fans in most rooms of the house and an additional fan to plug in the house cooled off perfectly at night with the windows open.
we used to live in a bungalow just like this in manhattan beach! the place looks exactly like the beautiful photos and was a perfect getaway for our family (we have two kids 5 & 8). the location is amazing, quick walk down to the beach. it was high tide and the weather was perfect. our favorite part of this place is the clean and comfortable bedding/furniture. it made it feel so homey.
We loved our stay here! The house was clean and matched the listing photos and description. The location was so great to walk to the beach and to nearby restaurants and coffee shops. We also enjoyed being close to a couple of parks for our young daughter. The neighborhood felt residential and safe.

The neighborhood
Bird Rock, where La Jolla slows down
Wavehouse sits in Bird Rock, the village at the south end of La Jolla, on a quiet residential street of bungalows two blocks from the water. It is the kind of block where people walk to the beach with a board under one arm.
Windansea is the break everyone comes for, with the old palm shack standing on the sand since 1946 and a reef that has been surfed since longboards were wood. Big Rock and Mushroom Beach are the same short walk, and the tide pools fill up at low tide.
Bird Rock itself is coffee, boutiques and neighborhood restaurants along La Jolla Boulevard, all walkable. La Jolla Shores and Pacific Beach are about ten minutes by car, and Torrey Pines about twenty.

- No smoking anywhere on the property, including all outdoor areas. There is a $500 fine for any evidence of smoking.
- The maximum for overnight guests is 6, and the number must be listed when you book. Extra visitors must be approved by the host in advance.
- This home is for a relaxing getaway, not parties. Keep music and noise at a level that is mindful of neighbors; noise that can be heard 50 feet from the home is not allowed. Guests may be asked to leave without a refund for excessive noise, parties or any illegal activity.
- The primary guest must be at least 25 years old and must be present for the whole stay. Third-party bookings, such as a parent booking for a child, are not permitted, and valid ID may be requested.

- Booking within 45 days of check in: 100% is due at booking.
- Booking more than 45 days before check in: 50% is due at booking, and the remaining 50% is due 45 days before check in.
