Nestled high in the mountains of Julian, California, the Dark Moon Chalet feels like it was made for winter. Just an hour from San Diego and about three from Los Angeles, this architecturally stunning A-frame becomes a warm, glowing retreat when the holidays arrive.
Each winter season (late November to mid January), we transform the chalet into a fully decorated Christmas cabin — every room layered with greenery, candlelight, and the nostalgic scent of pine. It’s the perfect place to slow down, sip mulled wine by the fire, and watch the forest quiet under the winter sky.

Every December, we bring the holidays to the mountains — four Christmas trees, garlands of cedar and pine, and touches of brass and linen that make the chalet sparkle.
The main tree anchors the living room beneath the A-frame peak, wrapped in warm white lights and natural ornaments. Smaller trees accent the loft and game room, giving each corner of the home its own festive glow.
We layer textures — knit throws, wool pillows, faux fur, and candles — to make every space feel like a cozy winter refuge.
